Norwegian stone astridHRH, The Crown Princess of Norway, Princess Astrid, unveiled in June of 1952 a granite obelisk on behalf of the people of Norway and the two Norwegian squadrons based in North Weald during the Second World War, to show their gratitude to the People of North Weald, the Royal Air Force, and the RAF Station North Weald. This is now incorporated in the RAF North Weald Memorial (Debt of Honour). The Obelisk commemorates the Norwegian airmen who were based at the airfield during the Second World War and the Memorial commemorates all those who served.

Every year on Remembrance Sunday, the Parish Council hosts a Remembrance Day service at the Debt of Honour, beginning at 12.15pm.  Members of the public are invited to attend this event.
